One of our members, Jennifer from Eighty MPH Mom, wrote a terrific tutorial on her site, New bloggers: How to link to a website.
Why should you read this post? Because, whether you are a new blogger or not, you might just not know this valuable information! Because sometimes we need a refresher or a kind reminder. Because you’ll be impressed at how well she did this tutorialĀ and you’ll want to leave her some comment love telling her so!
Sometimes, if you link to a site more than once in a post, you can get away with a “Click here” type link – just try not to do that if it is the ONLY link to the site within your post.
Why link like this? Well, my understanding of it (and someone correct me if I’m wrong!) is that search engines crawl the web and linking to sites in the manner Jennifer outlines will help search engines recognize and rank the site you are linking to better. Plus, your reader is going to be more likely to remember to visit the link you suggested at a later date if it links to an actual site’s name, instead of a generic “click here”.
Happy blogging!

Thank you so much for your kind words! Your last point is a REALLY good one that I should have included. Yes, if there are other links, you just need to link out once…but if it’s the only one please don’t use “click here” LOL. Thanks so much!
Good tip. I’m guilty of sometimes putting “click here.” It’s carryover from my library blogging days when page views and blog hits really didn’t matter. Now that I know how important it is for some bloggers, I try to be better about how I link to other blogs.
@Jennifer-Eighty MPH Mom – You’re welcome! I thought you did a fantastic job and it is an important topic to cover.
Don’t forget, you can always update your post! In fact, it gives new life to older posts – we talked about it here on the forum: http://www.betteryourblog.com/forum/topic/39.
Thanks for stopping by!
Nice post!

Good post! I try not to do click here, but I’m guilty of it sometimes.
@Daenel & Jessica Anne – I think we all are – once upon a time that was the way it was done and old habits sometimes die hard.
@JohnXL – Thanks for stopping by!
