    Welcome to Day 1!

It may not be a glamorous assignment but ProBlogger's first day is critical and the task will help you set the tone for yourself, for your blog, for potential readers, advertisers and investors. Today you will create and practice your elevator pitch as outlined in Darren's post here: http://www.problogger.net/archives/2009/04/06/write-an-elevator-pitch-for-your-blog-day-1-31dbbb/

Quite simply an "elevator pitch" is how you would describe your blog in a short span of time, say the time you might have to pitch your blog to a stranger on an elevator ride. I think two of the most important things to keep in mind when creating an elevator pitch is to make it brief and interesting.

If you've done a good job with branding, you will be able to tie in your site's name and your elevator pitch very effectively to be able to impart a maximum amount of information in a short amount of time.

Practicing your elevator pitch is really important because, if you don't feel confident, you probably won't sound confident and consequently, may lose a potential clients attention (whether reader, advertiser, investor, etc.). If you can't keep their attention face-to-face for a brief amount of time, consider how difficult it will be to keep a reader's attention on your blog for a longer amount of time, which is, ultimately the goal.

I can tell you from experience an elevator pitch is not always easy to deliver and requires not only practice with what you want to say but assessing what your "audience" is willing to pay attention to as well.

Please take time to create an elevator pitch and "pitch" it to us here on the forum to receive feedback and, if you're successful, perhaps some visits to your blog!

Living Outside the Stacks is a blog about my life away from the stacks. I focus on social issues relating to women and children with information about health and fitness thrown in for good measure. To keep things interesting, I intersperse all the heavy stuff with book and product reviews with a few give~a~ways just for fun.

Adventures With Three Girls is about my life with three girls and all the crazy, funny, and sometimes disgusting things that follow.

To expand on that a little: I write for other moms in order to connect with them and to share experiences in parenting, mostly with a light, positive tone. The idea is people reading my blog will come away with a smile most of the time and the idea that we all go through the same things as parents, and it is kind of funny most of the time. I incorporate green living into our home, so I incorporate it into the blog as well as a weekly feature.

Air Force. Wife. Life. is a blog about living the military/civilian lifestyle, while raising children, being a supporting wife, and balancing everything in between. What I want people to take away from my blog is while my life is far from easy, it's definitely worth every sacrifice I make to support my husband, my country, my children, and myself all while having fun and being me in the meantime. It's a place where other wives military or not can come and really share life together.

Everyone has great pitches! I am having a very hard time with my pitch. First it seems I enjoy writing on one blog more than the other. The crazy blog I enjoy so much is hard to pitch. It's basically about dating, sex and craziness. With a good amount of man venting thrown in. Any suggestions for my pitch? Thanks everyone!

My elevator pitch is in transition at the moment.

Chew & Digest Books features book reviews, book happenings, author interviews and handmade things for book lovers.

(I really want to start featuring more crafty bookish items, mostly because I love them, but also because I think that it will make me stand out a bit from the pack of book bloggers. I see it as a way to merge my passions)

Any thoughts would be highly appreciated:)

@ChewDigestBooks - Great to see you jumping in to the forum and doing the 31DBBB!

Can you detail what you mean by "crafty bookish items"? I'm unclear whether you mean hand bound books or homemade book covers or...? Maybe a few links to the type of thing you mean would be helpful if you have some handy! I'm so curious!!!

I think you are VERY smart to be thinking about how you can stand out and merging your passions.

Also, love your gravatar pic, by the way! It reflects you well since you mention your dogs on your sites and the pic of you makes it seem very personalized. Nolie also recently changed her profile pic (www.noliesplace.com) and hers looks fab too!

See this is what I need, someone feeling me out on my ideas, thanks!

By bookish things, I mean jewelry, journals, art prints, bookmarks, etc., but all with a book theme and preferably small business/handmade. (http://chewdigestbooks.com/category/show-your-love-of-books)

So far, I have been trying to support the etsy.com community, but even that could turn out to be too limiting. Still painting out the rough spots:)

Thanks for mentioning the gravatar, by the way. It took some major intestinal fortitude to finally post a picture of myself!
