...but make it a good one! List posts can be a really effective and quick way to impart info, but sometimes I see them overused and stale. Read Darren's list post about list posts (you knew he had to write a great example, didn't you?) http://www.problogger.net/archives/2009/04/07/write-a-list-post/

After you write your list post, share the link here on the forum and we can visit it for you and leave you some comment love. Please be sure to visit a fellow forum member's list post and leave a comment for them as well!

This post, my last one, (don't kill me that it takes so long between posts) is a form of List Post.

Or maybe it isn;t really a List Post? hmmmmmm, have me thinking now!

@jessicaanne - Great post! Love the way you have implemented your Green Thursdays into your blog.

Suggestions (take with a grain of salt of course!):

  1. For a list of that length, use bullet points or numbers to make it easier on the eye.
  2. If bullet points or numbers just don't work for your style, you could put your list in a block quote.
  3. Last option would be to keep your list as is but make a clear paragraph break at the beginning and end of your list.
  4. I think any of these options would make the post more "scannable" and improve the readability of it - visually, that is, the content is great!

I noticed that your "l" from "Buy Local" didn't get included when you bolded that one. Just a heads up!

I love your Twitter plugin - which one is that? Very nice addition.

I think your disclaimer is a great idea, but I think it might work better as a page instead of adding that to each post. I have a link somewhere that I'll find for you if you are interested in it that helps with the legalese of disclaimers. I just think having that be a separate page would potentially "neaten" up the post.

What do other members think about these suggestions? Any one else have feedback for Jessica?

@Madison Hill - I think your post is a perfect example of a list post. Very clean, very informative and right on target for your niche/business.

I think ending your post with a question like you did is also a wonderful way to invite comments. Don't be discouraged that you don't have any yet! I don't have a tip or quote to share or else I would have left one, but your invitation sure did get me trying to think of something. :-)

This line toward the end of your post needs the space and quote reversed...

    saying" Mind your own beeswax"

Any other feedback for Madison? Suggestions?

@admin, thanks for your comment and tips. As you may know I have gone off topic on my blog. It is really weird that people don't comment on the blog but they do comment on the notes on my FB page where I have my blog posts exported.

@ Jessica, I have read your blog a couple of tmes now and really enjoy it. Your format and layout is great. I wish my blog was beter layed out with more fun adn inviting widgets, example...your twitter button..and yes I am following you. I agreee with the Admin that maybe the post on Green Thursday could have been numbered or bulleted. However, I am NOONE TO SAY ANYTHING about another person's blog with the shape mine is in :) Keep up the great work.

@Madison My friend comment on my FB page too rather than on my blog. I keep telling them that I'd like to see some comment love on the actual blog but, yeah, nada...LOL And the few times that I've stopped importing my blog to FB they've gotten upset so I just accept that my friends are rebels. LOL

@Jessica I agree, maybe using bullets or numbers would make your list post easier to read. I know it's hard to do especially when it doesn't necessarily fit with the layout of your blog.

@Madison, Admin, and Daenel: Thanks! I will definitely try to do bullets or number in the future. I actually cheated on this one a little. I posted it before I converted to WP, and I've found my formating is a little off when they transfered. I should go fix them all though, so it looks nicer and reads easier.

@Admin: I would love the legalese page info. I've been thinking of adding one, but not quite sure what I want it to say. I haven't actually been compensated to do anything yet, but I would like to in the future, so I'd like to cover my bases somehow. Did you mean the little twitter t plug-in in my sidebar? I have to admit, I stole that from Crystal and Company. I couldn't find it online, so I viewed the page source and found the code and pasted it in, changing to my username. (Sometimes I can figure out techy stuff :)).If you'd like, I can paste the HTML code here or under helpful widgets for everyone to use.

@jessicaanne - I couldn't find the original one I found (it was great too - kicking myself for not bookmarking it!) but I found this one which looks decent: http://www.freenetlaw.com/free-website-disclaimer.php

The Twitter plugin that I noticed was being able to add your Twitter ID to your comment. Pretty sweet! :-)

@Daenel and @Madison Hill - Instead of importing my blog posts, I have a RSS feed on Facebook (I use Social RSS, the free version) and I also link to posts. It allows FB fans and friends to see my content and encourages them to click through. I actually get a lot of hits this way each week.

@Madison Hill - I think your blog is looking pretty great. We can all do something to improve our blogs, even the best bloggers make mistakes (maybe I should do a post about that...) so don't be too critical of yourself. Identify what you think works and make sure those things remain strong, then work on what you want to improve and just keep at it until you are happier.

@Daenel Same here. People post to my FB page, but do not to go the blog itself.

Thank you. I think this has made me more aware of my writing. I'm so used to writing for teachers and things, I still have a hard time using contractions...LOL

I've written a list post. I fear it's not going to make me any friends. But so far lots of good comments, so that's encouraging.

I thought you did a good job. I think a link (like to New Jack City) would have made it stronger just because for those who might not know a reference, a link connects your reader further. Now they know what you know! Also, maybe links to an article that supports your ten reasons? People looove info! And supporting evidence can make an already good post even better.

Also, this isn't specific to this particular post, but I noticed that after you've replied to a comment, your original poster's gravatar disappears, so little Kristins are everywhere! :-) I can't tell you why this is happening, but I suspect it is whatever comment plugin you are using. Or not! Make a backup of your site before messing around and trying to fix it.

    Great homework!

@Kristin I really enjoyed that post. It was easy to read and well written. I agree I would have liked a couple links to other articles about the evils of soda.
